Forgiveness. Redemption.

It is for you. It should also come from you. It was bought on the cross at a high price, Jesus.

I remember when I first discovered that I was pregnant. A moment that is supposed to be joyous..was more so anxiety-ridden for me.

I‘d been celibate after deciding to completely dedicate my life to Christ. I called myself a Christian for years, but one day I'd finally decided to stop only knowing Jesus as Savior, but also making Him the Lord over every aspect of my life.

That's a different post for a different time though.

Anyhow, I battled with the thoughts of the opinions of others. How was I going to explain to my parents, family, friends. social media, and God, that the celibate girl was pregnant?

I took it to the Lord in worship and in prayer. A good cry in the shower with worship music is always good for the soul. The song "Do It Again" by Elevation Worship came on, and God reassured me that He still loves me and His promise for my life did/does not end there.

However, guilt and shame continued to overwhelm me. I began to wonder if I should just go through with abortion and repent for it after (please don't do this--James 4:17, Hebrews 10:26)? Move to another city, never tell my family, and start a new life? Leave the church? Give up on my faith? Surely I was too far gone right?

God reassured me through His word. "Do you live for the approval of man or the approval of God?" Galatians 1:10

I was so caught up in the opinions of others that I was contemplating on hiding my sin with ANOTHER sin. Like, sis, come on now. That's exactly what David did with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11).

I was so caught up in pride and shame, that I was overlooking the redemption offered through Christ.
Ephesians 1:7 ESV" In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,"

If you are reading this, and you can relate, I just want you to know that there is forgiveness and redemption in Jesus Christ. God still loves you. His arms are wide open for you to return to Him. Do not hide from Him in shame and guilt. Bring this to the Lord and allow Him to use your pregnancy and your child for His glory.

The enemy is a loser, however, and will still attack your thought life. He will tell you that you're unworthy. That God doesn't love you anymore. That you already messed up so you might as well stop pursuing God. He is a liar! Stay rooted in God's truth. God's word is the perfect truth. It invalidates any lie that the enemy will try to tell you.

When I struggled with negative thoughts throughout my pregnancy, these truths helped me. Feel free to leave more in the comments!

- Isaiah 43

- Isaiah 59

- Jeremiah 29

- Luke 1:45

Yes, premarital sex is a sin. Yes, pregnancy should happen within the confines of marriage, but here's another biblical truth: THERE IS REDEMPTION IN THE NAME AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

Accept the forgiveness that Jesus paid for. Forgive yourself. Walk free of shame & guilt.

Invitation to Salvation

Hey there! You probably weren't expecting this at the end of a post like this, but I have really good news to share! God desires so much more for us than we know. God desires for us to be restored back to His original design for mankind. I’m sure you’ve heard the story before about Adam & Eve and the fall of humanity (see more here.)

God designed us to display His glory. Unfortunately, we chose to follow our own idea of evil and good, and sin was introduced to the world. For a better understanding and in-depth analysis of why we need salvation please visit these resources!

The Gospel

1 Corinthians 15:3

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The gospel is God’s good news of reconciliation of Him & mankind. God is not looking for robots to aimlessly follow a leader who will smite them for doing the wrong thing. The truth of the gospel is that God loves us and invites us to dwell with Him in eternity. That is life. God’s overall plan is so much more than we could ever understand, but the beauty is that we don’t have to fully comprehend to believe in Him. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). As a result of human nature, we are all destined to die. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). So instead of us having to die eternally and suffer the full sentence of death that came about as a result of sin, God took on that punishment for us. Through Jesus Christ, He justified us through His own blood and made life available to all who would choose to believe.

The gospel is so much more than a story about an angry God who wants to control your life and just send you to hell if you don’t do what He wants. I implore you to study the scriptures and God’s creation and redemption story. He will give you the answers you seek. The gospel is God’s plan to restore us into relationship with Him. Sin keeps us from God.

If you believe, or you feel that God is trying to get you to invite Him into your life, the first step is accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Believe that He died for the atonement of your sins (1 John 2:2), that He was buried, and resurrected on the third day, defeating sin and death (Revelation 1:18), and that He invites us to partake in this victory too (Romans 6:5-10.)

So What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ and repent (turn away) from a life of sin. (Acts 3:19)

It is by grace, through faith! (Ephesians 2:8-9).
